Intro

As the world’s first playable AAA Web3 MMORPG game, Delysium launches its Pre-Alpha Test on May 1st, 2022. Unlike traditional AAA games that are not available to the public until the official launch date, Delysium will instead “Launch by Stage”, a strategy we carefully designed to reflect the “Decentralized & Total Ownership” Web3 philosophy in which the team firmly believes from day 1.

Chapter 1 — What Do You Mean Exactly When You Say “we are launching a AAA Web3 game”?

To answer this question, we’d like to start with a definition.

AAA games: the term “AAA games” is used widely in the video game industry to represent games that are published by a well-known publisher with a considerable development and marketing budget.

Examples include Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Diablo IV, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Super Mario Odyssey, Elden Ring, etc.

In other words, AAA games are blockbusters for video games. Before the game is released, millions of players will add it to their wishlists; as soon as the title is out, players will queue up to try the game, and excited ones sometimes even bring the server down (take Halo Infinite for an example :)). To players, some of the most anticipated AAA games’ launches are like celebrations where they even take a day off to get home early and get ready for the adventure ahead.

However, game developers & publishers hold a rather mixed attitude towards this excitement of players because developers are often concerned that if the released game is not up to their expectations, even for just a little bit, players will rush to the game rating website and dump their dissatisfaction by giving an extremely low score to the game.

For instance, when Anthem launched in February 2019, fans and critics gave it a 55 on Metacritic, BioWare’s lowest score since it was founded in 1995. They felt the game was half-baked, and the end product was far from what had been shown in the trailer on E3. The great anticipation became even greater disappointment — players were sharing bugs on the forum and were not willing to give Anthem a second chance, unlike how they did to Destiny. The popularity of Anthem quickly faded away, and EA announced that all future development for Anthem ceased in February 2021.

In recent years, more and more AAA game developers have become super careful about not revealing their games too early. Hideo Kojima let the entire world wait until Death Stranding was released to find out exactly how the game was designed. In this case, players are treated as consumers, just like in traditional industry, where they only participate towards the end of the customer journey when the final product is available to the public. Players make a one-time $60 purchase for the game, and after that, they consume the content produced by developers, and they beat the game. Period.

To us, it is a great pity that there is no meaningful communication between game developers and players from early on, thus gamers can rarely make an actual impact on how the game should be built and hence hardly develop any real feeling of engagement with the game itself. We realize that a huge number of players would love to have a more significant role throughout the game development process, yet this vision is not realistic in the traditional AAA world.

Chapter 2 — Then What Is The Difference In The AAA Mentality for Delysium?

First of all, ever since we established this project, the standard on the game design quality has never been lowered. Our team is formed by industry veterans who worked many years for Riot Games, Ubisoft, Scopely, etc. and launched numerous AAA titles.

Furthermore, we treat our players, the fundamental component of our ecosystem, differently from other AAA games because, as gamers ourselves, we know that players deserve more respect from game developers and should have an impact on the game while it’s being developed.

Video games are our passion, and we have every right to participate in how our passion is shaped.

During the process of designing our tokenomics and laying the foundation for the core ecosystem, we deliberately create mechanisms to ensure all kinds of players with different goals or profiles can join and thrive in the Delysium world. The team has been adhering to the open spirit and community-driven values underlined by the Web 3 philosophy, hoping to create the world’s first genuine AAA open-world Web3 experience. In order to achieve this goal, we consider players not as consumers but as community members who can bring tremendous value to the Delysium world.

With that being said, we chose “Launch by Stage” as Delysium’s Game-as-a-Service operation strategy as of May 1st, 2022 and hereby invite our community members to join this rewarding journey with us.

Thanks to the continuous efforts of a nearly 100 people game development team, Delysium has reached a playable status in general, but of course, with tons of details to be improved. For this reason, we hope to gradually release it to the community so that the players and partners who support Delysium along the way can participate in its early iterations.

Your voice matters and your feedback will be taken into consideration seriously while we develop new patches.

Players who make meaningful engagements will be rewarded not only with in-game items but also with on-chain ones that are exclusive to Delysium early adopters and vanguards. We firmly believe that only combining players’ enthusiasm and wisdom with our game-dev experience and expertise can truly make the game heart-touching and long-lasting.

What’s more important is that as a player, you deserve to be involved at a greater level so come and join us today.

Let’s make a game together!

Starting from the Pre-Alpha Test on May 1st 2022, we will make the game accessible to some of our core community members and gradually expand the testing audience.

By participating and sharing your ideas, you will be able to witness how Delysium is improved based on your feedback, grow with this fantastic world, and be rewarded each time you stay through a new iteration of the game.

Chapter 3 — One More Thing to Add

We understand that making a AAA open-world MMORPG game is a long journey ahead. As we humbly, yet at the same time bravely, chose to launch Delysium by stage and invite our community members to jointly develop the game with us, we also realize that having a 100 people team to be solely responsible for creating the content for a Web3 open-world game is not realistic.

In the history of the video game industry, some of the biggest names were UGC mods originally: before becoming the most successful e-sports game in the world, Dota was merely a UGC custom map in Warcraft III; Counter-Strike was also originally a UGC mod for Half-Life; TaleWorlds released one of its most popular DLCs based on a UGC mod; Roblox utilizes its UGC community to become one of the biggest public companies in the world.

Therefore, as more and more players join the Delysium world, we wish to empower them with the same level of creativity freedom and tools as in those epic games mentioned above; in fact, we will devote ourselves to making an even better set of tools, including UGC editors and AI MetaBeing configurations, to transform Delysium world into a vivid Metaverse and lifestyle.

We strive to leave our mark in the history of Web3 games, and hopefully, one day we can make it to the hall of fame with a joint effort of the community!

The goal of Delysium has been to construct a virtual world where 1 billion individuals and 100 billion AI Virtual Beings coexist on blockchain.

These virtual natives can be not only the digital version of ourselves but also our companions and Non-Player Characters (NPCs) shuttling across diverse scenarios including games, communities, media platforms, and more.

In Delysium, everyone can create their own AI Virtual Being and gradually develop their personalities and capabilities. Besides playing games with them, players can interact with their AI Virtual Beings to learn about crypto, check & trade crypto assets, discover crypto opportunities, and get warned ahead of the risks through natural language conversations.

Moreover, powered by the decentralized game publishing structure, an increasing number of games with customized tokenomics and on-chain assets (such as NFTs or tokens) will be connected, and that will gradually make the AI-Powered Virtual Society more prosperous.

As of now, the AI Virtual Beings are available to use on Delysium official website, and Delysium is the first playable game with AAA-quality that has been listed on Epic Games Store.
